Usually, when I don’t get to experience a car in person, I do not write a full road test but instead a shorter opinion piece which is a compilation of my best assumptions and reactions to a car based on a set of known facts. So while these are still 100% my opinions and I have in no way actually driven the car, the Gemera deserves to be discussed at length. This car has the potential to be one of the most influential cars of its time; a car that environmentalists and car lovers alike can worship. Christian Von Koenigsegg in all his intelligence and brilliance has created the ultimate hypercar that at the same time is almost surely more environmentally conscious than any other car on the market. So pardon if this article is a bit longer than usual, but as you shall see, the Gemera absolutely deserves your attention.  

If you have read any of my articles about Tesla you will know that while I appreciate the engineering that goes into their cars, I am no particular fan of the company. That being said, they have come out with a new crossover which I assume has been done in attempt to fill a gap in the market and compete with other mainstream manufacturers. So inevitably, I must provide my opinion.

The new Mercedes-Maybach GLS600 (also known as the GLS-class) in my opinion is one of the most interesting new cars on the market today, but in a rather paradoxical manner I find it interesting because of its transparency. From the first time I considered this car it was very transparent about its intentions, and I see this as a rarity in the portion of the market it aims to compete in. Over time I’ve come to realize a few things concerning luxury SUVs, mainly what they are truly meant for. Many see the SUV as the perfect combination of sportiness, ruggedness, and practicality- thus the name. While I do find SUVs in a most basic sense to be practical vehicles, I believe that luxury SUVs serve a different purpose. 

For some cars I review it takes much deliberation and research to be able to develop a decisive opinion, but after only 20 minutes of research on the GV80 I came to a conclusion. The new GV80, like any other Genesis model, comes down purely to the idea of perspective. It’s a nice car, make no mistake, but whether you would actually buy one, well that depends on what you count as favorable or unfavorable. 

If I could summarize the GT in one word, this is what it would be: confusing. It confused me when I first read about it. It confused my friend when he first saw it at the auto show. It will confuse McLaren customers for sure. And it sure as hell confused the engineers at McLaren when someone from the marketing department turned up with plans to build a GT car. 

Recently, it has been hard for me to be truly decisive when it comes to making my mind up on how I feel about new cars. I wrote about the Mazda, which I really wanted to like to but unfortunately I could not. I wrote about the Maserati which initially charmed me with its spurious passion but then when I got to know it I realized it was not really what it was made out to be. You could call me a cynic, and you would probably be right. So do not take this lightly when I say that the Porsche Taycan Turbo, in my eyes, is exactly what the car industry needs.
